Gabriela Avigur-Rotem (born in Buenos Aires, Argentina) came to Israel in 1950. She holds a degree in Hebrew and English Literature. For several years she taught Hebrew literature at a high school near Tel Aviv and directed writing workshops at Haifa and Ben Gurion Universities. She works as an editor at the Haifa University Publishing House. After publishing two collections of poetry, she published her first novel in 1992. Avigur-Rotem has received the Peter Schwisert Prize for Young Writers, the Tel-Aviv Rabinovich Prize for her poetry collection Walls and Emperors and the Goldberg Prize for Heatwave and Crazy Birds. She was twice awarded the Prime Minister`s Prize for Literature (1992 and 2001), the President`s Prize (2002) and the Keshet Publishing House Golden and Platinum Book Prizes for her bestseller Heatwave and Crazy Birds.
