Biography:
Musician and Drummer Doron Raphaeli founded Tararam in 1996 after being called upon to put together an outdoor performance for the Israeli Performing Arts Festival in Acre. Raphaeli recruited some of Israel's most talented performers to team up on what became the group’s first collaborative effort titled “Drumming on Junk”. Raphaeli named the group “Tararam”, which in Hebrew means “hubbub or commotion”. Doron expanded and built upon the new and exciting performance genre, set up by groups such as “Stomp”, by adding tightly choreographed movement sequences, live music and electrifying visuals. The talented performers created music from a combination of nontraditional objects, industrial tools, percussion, and an “old jalopy”. It did not take long for the group’s imaginative performance to rise to the top of Israel’s cultural. The group moved on to appear at The International Israel Festival of Stage Arts in Jerusalem in 1997 where their performance was a huge success. Since then, for over 10 years, Tararam has continued to perform numerous shows at festivals and mega events around the world, has made many television appearances, toured nationally and internationally, and continues to receive extraordinary reviews.
